Blog Post #100!

August 1, 2013

I reached a milestone in my blogging journey with blog post #100. Before I started the adventure with my website FineWineGlassesAndMore about a year ago, I would have never believed that I would actually sit here today, and write my 100th blog post. I used to struggle with a text message… but I enjoy it, and I’m learning a lot. I remember when I was a kid I loved to write stories, and in school when we got and essay assignment, I would always find a way to make my story about horses (my biggest passion in life).

My stories are not about horses anymore, but I still like to sneak in a little “horse talk” now and then about these majestic and gorgeous animals that I love so much. And since I’m on the subject, it is the biggest day of the year in Harness Racing on Saturday (Aug. 3rd). I would like to promote our great sport, because the place to be is The Meadowlands, in East Rutherford New Jersey, where the biggest trotting race in the World, “The Hambletonian” is on the program.

Witch wines will mark my mini anniversary? How about a Bordeaux and my first ever Rose. The Bordeaux, a 2009 Mayne Sansac was a little strange at first, but this wine grew on me. A full-bodied, quite bold wine, that was excellent paired with a marinara sauce. I only paid $10 for this bottle, so I thought it was great value.

I was told that I’m missing out by shying away from the Rose wines, so I figured I would get one while the weather is still worm. Ended up with a Spanish wine, 2010 Protocolo, from Eguren. Not a bad summer sip, light and crisp, easy to drink. Perfect on a hot day, when you look for something cold and refreshing. This bottle was only $8, so how could you go wrong?

I would like to thank my followers, and everyone else that has helped getting me over 1000 views on my blog. It is a totally new and exciting adventure for me that I’m hoping to continue for years to come. The world of wine is so complex and full of history, it just makes you want to learn more, and of course, the most important thing, taste more. Cheers!

I fell in love with the other “Red Truck” that I bought, so when I saw that they had a Pinot Noir, of course I had to buy it. And this, 2009 California Pinot Noir (around $10),  didn’t disappoint me, medium bodied with aromas of dark berries and spice, and a nice cherry on the palate. Paired with Chicken Marsala with a side of Quinoa with sun-dried tomatoes, it was absolutely delicious. This food friendly wine will happily pair with anything from salmon and chicken, to a nice steak.

It’s getting a bit harder to find the time to post on my blog these days. I’m getting real busy at work, and there seem to be less time for tasting, as well as writing. But I will do my best through the summer, and I know things will slow down again in the fall.

I have been traveling throughout New York State, racing horses the last month, and caught myself thinking that I should stop by the wineries that I’m passing on the road and do a little tasting. And there is a lot of them. But since I have a hard time with the part of wine tasting that includes spitting…… I don’t think it would be a very good idea.

Tonight I’m practising tasting without spitting. Cheers!

New York 2 – New Jersey 0

October 18, 2012

The battle is on. Another New York wine went through the test today with flying colours. New Jersey is still 0 – 1. Had a Riesling from The Saratoga Winery paired with roasted chicken. It was a pretty dry, crisp and fruity Riesling, wich I really like. Very enjoyable.

The best part of tonight’s dinner was our planning of the upcoming 2 weeks. Halloween is just 2 weeks away, and we have some pretty cool plans that we are working on. Halloween is not a holiday that I grew up with, but it really is a fun time. I would have loved being a kid getting to do all this fun stuff. So in the near future I’m getting something crossed off my bucket list. I’m going to carve a pumpkin! Doesn’t sound like a very exciting thing to have on your bucket list, but it’s just something that I’ve been wanting to do. And we are making it even better by pairing it with wine tasting! And you know, I will be blogging and posting pictures, so stay tuned!

Really liked the label on tonight’s wine. I know a lot of people in the horse racing industry, and I think you would all appreciate this label.

Have a great Wine Wednesday! Cheers!

Bet on The Gray!

October 13, 2012

…As the horse racing saying goes. Or in the wine world “the white”. We tried a 2010 Chardonnay from The Saratoga Winery tonight, paired with a seafood casserole. By itself, I thought the wine was a little too acidy, but with the meal it was great. Crisp, fruity and light, just as you would like with a meal like that. We had a different chef tonight to, and I can honestly say it is the first time I’ve had cod in this country…. As a Norwegian I like my seafood, and I’m very happy to get a meal like this.

I guess it’s time for me to try to cook up something myself. I’m not all that into cooking, I’m the one that would volunteer to do dishes if someone else cooks. But I really think it’s my turn…. well, at least some time soon…

If you are having seafood for dinner don’t be afraid to go with New York’s number one horse country’s Chardonnay, an excellent choice. We also have another one on our list of wines to try, The Riesling. So stay tuned… Cheers!
